The last few months have shown an incredible display of fundraising initiatives, with a multitude of events captivating the local community and inspiring individuals to support our appeals. A few standout fundraisers are;

Refreshing support

A heart-warming display of fundraising came from children aged between 2-9 years old, who set up an orange juice stall outside of their home to raise money for the neonatal unit. Spreading joy and refreshing drinks over warm, sunny days.

The incredible Rosalind raised over £11,000 which was split between SASH Charity and Macmillan Cancer Support. This was raised through her fundraiser 'Thirty, hurty and walking for mum' as she celebrated turning thirty by walking for 30 hours. All donations have gone towards the SASH Cancer Fund which will help enhance the garden at the Macmilan Cancer Centre at East Surrey Hospital by offering a therapeutic retreat to people affected by cancer.

London Marathon

Shirley completed the London Marathon in memory of her sister-in-law and raised over £3000 towards the SASH Cancer Fund, supporting patients in Surrey and Sussex affected by cancer. This amazing achievement will allow a summerhouse to be built in the East Surrey Macmillan Cancer Support Centre, providing patients and loved ones with a shaded space amongst nature. This is especially important to service users who have requested a shaded summerhouse to be protected by the sun during their treatment.

Run Gatwick

2023.jpg

This kicked off on 21st May 2023 attracting running enthusiasts from all levels, with the opportunity to run alongside the runway via the inner airport perimeter road at Gatwick Airport. As runners dashed across the finish line, they collectively raised over £1.5k in total towards an array of our appeals such as supporting ED staff room developments, the cancer fund and Olive’s appeal.

Walk for Wards

The Therapies team at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust took part in this year’s Walk for Wards and collectively raised over £600 for the neonatal unit at East Surrey Hospital.  They embarked on a 7.5km journey through the scenic route of Colley Hill in Reigate.

Our Therapies team truly displayed our One Team value by raising funds towards overnight room developments in the neonatal unit which will enable families to stay close by to their premature babies.

Everyone went the extra mile to make a difference, whether that was through donating, thinking of a way to fundraise, or taking part at an event.

Donations to our appeals will directly help patients and their loved ones, as well as our incredibly hard-working staff across Surrey and Sussex. If you are thinking of going the extra mile and would like to know how the SASH Charity team can support you, please email: sash.charity@nhs.net
