Grantmaking and Communications Officer
Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Charity is the charity for East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, and all the services delivered by Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. We know that being in hospital can be hard – and we want to change this.
We are looking for someone highly organised, with great written and interpersonal communication skills to administer how we spend donated money, and to show people the impact of our funding.
No previous professional experience in charities is required. You could be an experienced professional, or someone looking for a first role following university/education.
As our Grantmaking & Communications Officer, you will receive and track applications to the charity for funding through our approval process. You will submit completed applications to our committees for review, and use our CRM system (Beacon) to track them, liaising with successful funding applicants to help ensure that funded projects then happen in a timely manner.
The second part of the role is showing people how donations help. This will range from putting a ‘Funded by Surrey & Sussex Healthcare Charity’ sticker on (or next to) everything we have funded, through to creating donor walls.
You will track down everything the charity has funded and help create really compelling content to share through a range of channels. This will involve taking photos of projects/items funded by the charity, gathering quotes from staff or patients who have benefitted, and creating video content for use online.
If you’re a natural at social media and chatting to hospital staff or patients, you will have the opportunity to create and present social media content – for example video interviews with people who have seen the impact of charity funding.
We want to get brilliant at showing people exactly how their donations help, because it inspires other people to want to help too. This role is key to that ambition.

Fundraising Officer - Maternity Cover
As the charity for East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, and all the services delivered by Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, we know that being in hospital can be hard – and we want to change this.
Our brilliant Fundraising Officer is going on Maternity Leave, so we are now looking for a fundraiser to our small and impactful team for 12 months.
The role is 2.5 days (18.5 hours) a week, and we are flexible as to when those hours are. So the role would potentially work well for those looking for a part time role alongside other commitments, or fundraising consultancy work.
We are looking for someone with brilliant skills and the drive to help across to the whole range of fundraising.
Key parts of the role will be proactively contacting potential supporters who have expressed an interest in supporting the charity (for example by asking for info on charity places in events), and helping convert as many of them as possible into supporters. Helping engage people, and making it really easy for them to see and support our work.
We would also love to grow the number of applications we make to relevant charitable trust’s and foundations, so would also welcome applications from experienced Trust & Foundation fundraisers who would like to use these skills alongside the broader fundraising mix.
The Fundraising Officer is also central to engaging our existing supporters, for example thanking them, gathering supporter stories for social media, and considering other donor engagement activity.
You will also be a key representative of the charity, as we seek to make it easier for people in the hospitals to see how they can support our work, for example by representing charity to hospital staff (for example visiting wards to build relationships, check on what materials they need) or by representing the charity on a stand at SASH sites, or in the community – helping make our work more visible to people who already care deeply about their hospitals.
More details are available in the job description. We are primarily looking for someone with outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and the skills and drive to help make it as easy as possible for people to support our work.
We have a growing wishlist of compelling projects requiring support. For example you will help raise the money to refurbish two rooms where we care for local children with cancer. The work is impactful, and touches almost everyone in our community.
